It’s a festive summer on the waterfront, with a packed calendar of activities at Jack London Square throughout the month of July. In addition to the events detailed below, JLS is also host to many ongoing ones. July 4th Festival of Family Fun
Saturday, July 4, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Broadway and Embarcadero

This festive day will pack JLS with interactive activities and performers for both parents and children to enjoy, including a bubble wrangler, jugglers, magicians, Uncle Sam stilt walkers, a petting zoo, face painters, balloon artists, hula hoopers, bike rentals, puppet shows, craft making, fire engine trucks and performances from the Circus Spire Youth Troupe.

Families will also enjoy play rivers with earthy, kinetic environments from Riveropolis for children, as well as a “Conscious Carnival” featuring several eco-games, including “Toss Out Tonsil Fuels,” “Recycle Swish,” “Seeds for Life” and “High Biker/Hi-Striker.” Additionally, the Festival will feature food options, tasty treats, drinks, live music and much more!

Jack’s Night Market
Friday, July 5, 6 – 10 p.m.
Broadway and Embarcadero

JLS invites locals and visitors to spend the first Friday of each month on the waterfront for a captivating evening, filled with merriment and verve, at Jack’s Night Market. These special evenings will take place on the same nights as Oakland’s First Fridays, lighting up JLS with an eclectic mix of artisans, music, food and fun. From the finest crafts and designers to local fruit purveyors and street performers, this vibrant outdoor bazaar will celebrate all that is Oakland-made. Night-Market-goers will also enjoy a selection of street food, beer and wine, and other tasty treats. All beer and wine sales during Jack’s Night Market will benefit the Sustainable Business Alliance and Oakland Grown.

Dancing Under the Stars
Fridays in July, 8:30 – 10 p.m.
Foot of Broadway

From experienced dancers to newbies, everyone is invited to an evening of rhythm, grooving and Dancing Under the Stars! Dancers will kick up their heels and pack JLS for free dance lessons provided by the Linden Street Dance Studio. The festive lessons begin at 8:30, followed by a dance party at 9:15 to try out all the new moves. Each Friday night, JLS will host a different dance theme.

Waterfront Flicks
Thursdays, July 11 (Hitchcock) and 25 (Brave) at sunset
Market Lawn, Harrison and Water Streets

JLS invites moviegoers to cozy up on the waterfront this summer for free outdoor screenings of hit movies as part of the annual Waterfront Flicks series, which features fan favorites every other Thursday. From date night to family flick night, moviegoers can start their evenings early with dinner at one of JLS’s waterfront restaurants, or pick up a quick bite from one of the casual eateries to enjoy during the screening. Moviegoers may wish to arrive early with blankets in hand for pre-film festivities including small eats, beer, trivia and giveaways. All beer proceeds benefit the East Bay Bike Coalition.

East Bay SPCA Pet Adoption
Saturday, July 13, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Washington and Embarcadero

JLS is set to partner with the East Bay SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) to find “forever homes” for furry friends this summer. On this special day, the waterfront will welcome friendly dogs, adorable kittens and bunnies from more than 30 East Bay pet adoption agencies. Potential pet owners are invited to meet these shelter animals seeking new homes and talk to SPCA volunteers about the animals up for adoption.

Pedalfest
Saturday, July 20, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Broadway and Embarcadero

Pedalfest rolls into JLS to celebrate all things cycling at the Bay Area’s premier bicycle festival. This annual event packs the waterfront with more than 20,000 biking enthusiasts enjoying bicycle-themed entertainment, food and exhibits. Pedalfest-goers will enjoy cycling daredevils performing in the 30-foot “Whiskey-Drome,” eye-popping two-wheeled BMX stunts by pro riders, a pedal-powered stage featuring live music, a children’s tricycle parade, folding bike races, a bicycle rodeo for kids, pedal-powered food, and a dazzling collection of new, vintage and handmade bikes. Additionally, a selection of beers will be available from New Belgium Brewing, with all proceeds being donated to the East Bay Bicycle Coalition.

5th Annual Pickin’ on the Potomac Bluegrass Series
Friday, July 26, 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.
Dockside on the Presidential Yacht USS Potomac

Listen to the foot-stompin’-good sounds of popular Bay Area band Blue & Lonesome, as well as enjoying tasty bar nibbles and beverages.

Urban Wine Experience
Saturday, July 27, 1 – 5 p.m.
Pavilion Building

More than 50 wines from 15 members of the East Bay Vintners Alliance will be showcased at the Urban Wine Experience. Join in this afternoon of wine tasting, delicious food options, local restaurants and live music.

    If Jack London were alive today he would have been a well paid author “slumming it” hanging out with occupy oakland and contributing to their kafkaesque bureaucracy
