Oakland Local is seeking interns to work on projects with our fundraising and editorial teams in 2013-2014. We are interviewing in mid August for roles that start after Labor Day.  In particular, we’re looking for the following

Reporting intern: Work with a skilled and experience reporting team (former Mercury News, Oakland Tribune, Orange Count Register) on a project that involves FOIAs, data visualization, and deep analysis of local news. MUST be free during the day to visit government institutions, libraries etc. Detail-oriented, news-driven personality with research interests/skills preferred. Prefer you have own computer/laptop. 15 hours week.

Food beat intern: Do you care about good food, food justice, access to healthy food equity issues? Come work with us.  Good research skills, interest in building proficiency in field required.Prefer you have own computer/laptop. 15 hours week.

Neighborhood beats intern: Are you a real Oakland Local who knows the people and issues in our neighborhoods?  Come work with us.  Good research skills, interest in building proficiency in field required.Prefer you have own computer/laptop. 15 hours week.

General assignment intern: Cover a broad range of topics on assignment for Oakland Local. Good research skills, interest in building proficiency in field required.Prefer you have own computer/laptop. 15 hours week.

These positions pay a stipend of $300-500 a month and require presence at the Oakland Local co-working space for meetings during the week. We require a 2 week tryout in September as part of the selection process. You will be working 10-15 hours a week and must be productive during that time frame.
