Halloween is right around the corner. It’s a fun holiday for people, but what about for pets? Strangers coming to the door all evening, all kinds of weird-smelling outfits and loud visitors, awesome-looking treats that your people are really excited about but they won’t let you eat because they’re “poisonous,” whatever that means… could be better, right?

Groomer and pet supply store Paws & Claws has both pets and their people covered. The 10th annual Howl-o-ween parade and costume contest is the perfect opportunity for everyone to dress up.

At 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, costumed participants — pets, kids and adults — will meet up in front of Paws & Claws at 3436 Dimond Avenue in Oakland. They will then parade through the Dimond business district, collecting treats. Some footage of last year’s parade is available here.

After the parade, the fun continues at Paws & Claws with a contest for best human and best pet costumes. Word has it that this annual contest often features some impressive costumes for both. There will also be a raffle to benefit Sayulit Animals in Yayarit, Mexico.

So whether pets and their people are interested in competing in their finest Halloween couture, supporting animal causes, meeting other pets and people, or just having some seasonal fun you can enjoy together, Howl-o-ween offers just what you’re looking for, for bipeds and quadrupeds alike.
