Community Voices is at the core of what Oakland Local is about. It’s a space for community organizations, businesses and everyday citizens to communicate about what’s important to them in Oakland.

What makes Community Voices so valuable is that it’s for everyone. We don’t care where you come from, what you look like or what you want Oakland to be. You don’t have to be an expert, an authority figure or a representative of any organization. You just have to have a well-thought-out position that is significant to you and your community.

We hope these pieces spark conversation. At its best, Community Voices is a place for ideas to be proposed, debated and put into action. Positive change is rarely effected by an individual acting alone. It is effected by a group working together through thoughtful deliberation. That’s where forums like Community Voices come in.

We invite you to contribute your thoughts. But before you do, check out our guidelines that will tell you a little about the technical aspects of what we’re looking for.

If you’re a commenter, remember this is a place for conversation, not condemnation. Regardless of their views, contributors have put a lot of time, effort and thought into what they write. We’ve asked them to be fair, balanced and credible. We only ask the same of you.

If you’d like to post, please contact us at, or, and get a log in to the site. We welcome your views.
