from San Francisco Arts Festival:

Several community organizations are coordinating a Boys and Men of Color Resource Fair at Laney College from March 26th – 29th (4pm – 7pm  each night) alongside the premiere of PLACAS: The Most Dangerous Tattoo, written and developed by Paul S. Flores starring Ric Salinas of Culture Clash. We want to extend the opportunity for Oakland and Alameda County Boys and men of color (BMOC) to attend, participate and be uplifted in this work.

The BMOC Resource Fair will be held at the Laney Student Resource Center before performances of PLACAS from 4pm-7pm, and will be a combination of information, engagement and activity center. Including the following:

1. Tabling: Opportunity for community organizations including representatives from all four Peralta Colleges offering information on their specific programs attractive to BMOC including manufacturing, food service, construction, computer information, and health careers.

2. Health Services & Enrollment: Opportunity for families to meet with active enrollment agents for Covered California who will be on hand to sign up eligible attendees for health insurance offering bilingual health care info, health screenings and enrollment services on site.

3.  Performances/Presentations: Opportunity for community organizations to provide resources and host 5-6 minute presentations on traditional healing, youth empowerment and spoken word, musical performances, fatherhood support, demonstrations and violence prevention resources.

Event sponsors include The Unity Council, Laney College, San Francisco International Arts Festival, Urban Strategies, California Arts Council, Zellerbach Family Foundation (fiscal sponsor by La Peña Cultural Center) and The California Endowment.
