California Women's State Appointment Project 2010 seeking applicants

California Women's State Appointment Project 2010 seeking applicants

Black Women Organized for Political Action - BWOPA - California Women Lead, the National Women's Political Caucus, California, Leadership California, the California Commission on the Status of Women and HOPE - Hispanas Organized for Political Equality - comprise the coalition of organizations spearheading the California Women's State Appointment Project 2010.

The mission of this nonpartisan project is to encourage and recruit women statewide to apply for an appointment on boards, commissions or in agencies within the new gubernatorial administration that will be elected this November.

The California Women's State Appointment project will present the next governor and their transition team with names and resumes of women who are interested in serving the new administration, in order to provide a significant pool of qualified women to serve as appointees. Women seeking all level of positions - high level, paid and volunteer - should apply. Many of these boards and commissions need women to serve in public positions, so women should not think they need to be an expert in a specific area. There are many women currently serving on boards and commissions who learn as they go!

The coalition's goal is to not only increase the number of women in appointed office, but also to ensure that boards and commissions reflect the rich diversity of California.

Please encourage women in your networks to fill out the application located on our website. Questions can be directed to: cwap@cawomenlead.org; Rachel Michelin (916) 551-1920 California Women Lead; or LaNiece Jones 510.763.9523 BWOPA staff@bwopa.org.
