Cheap Oakland Fun: Ride the Ferry Across the Bay

Oaklanders see the San Francisco Bay every day, but how often do you actually get out on it? An easy, inexpensive, fun way to experience the bay is to ride the Alameda/Oakland Ferry.

Want to see what it's like? Oakland Local reporter Amy Gahran recently rode the ferry at sunset from Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco to Oakland. Watch her video vignette of the experience...

The ferry runs every day with morning, afternoon, and evening departures from Jack London Square in Oakland. The one-way fare is $6.25 for adults, $3.50 for kids 5-12, and kids under 5 ride free. That's more expensive than BART or the bus, but less costly than driving and parking -- and probably more fun than either mode of transit.

To save money and allow more flexibility in your schedule, just ride the ferry one way.
