February’s First Friday is promising to be leap-year-worthy.

In addition to the 19 regular gallery openings, there are several notable art walk happenings this Friday:

The Parkway Theater will open its new location at 474 24th St. to the public this Friday. Though the theater won’t be doing business for some time, owners are inviting Oaklanders to view the new space before construction begins.

The Parkway has partnered with the Oakland Underground Film Festival to provide audio and visuals for the event, including Oakland-related movies There will be photo booths, video booths and lots of popcorn. From 6 to 7:30 p.m., visitors will have the chance to chat with local B movie connoisseur Will Viharo about what the new Parkway has in store.

The Niebyl-Proctor Marxist Library at 6501 Telegraph Ave. is holding another First Friday Neighborhood Square Dance from 8 to 10 p.m. featuring guest caller Michael Ismerio and music by the Squirrelly Stringband. Admission is $5 to $10 sliding scale. All dances will be taught on the spot, so there is no experience necessary.

In addition to food and craft vendors on 23rd Street, Art Murmur will launch a Poetry Wall there this Friday. Also on 23rd Street, the Chaundra Cerrito Contemporary gallery is hosting an exhibition walk-through at 6 p.m. with solo artist Jenn Shifflet, who will talk about her show "Verdant Refuge" - a collection of “inner landscape” paintings on paper.

Vessel Gallery will feature a Chinese New Year celebration from 6 to 9 p.m., including a lion dance and Chinese folk dance performance. New works by Chinese-American artist Belli Liu will be exhibited, too.

Studio Quercus (26th Street) continues "In the Ring," an exhibition of historical boxing photos accompanied by film and sound installations and in the spirit of Valentine’s Day, short films about love will be projected on The Great Wall of Oakland beginning at 7 p.m.

If you're on the hunt for a Valentine's Day present, 25th Street Collective will boast an impressive array of local vendors in addition to the many collective members.
