On July 21, U.S. Secretaty of Labor Hilda Solis visited the corporate headquarters of Jamba Juice in Oakland to talk about the company's commitment of 2,500 summer jobs as part of the Secretary’s Summer Jobs USA: Make the Commitment initiative. The Department of Labor photography staff was on hand to capture every moment.

Solis told attendees "In the last 16 months, almost 2.2 million private sector jobs have been created, in the private sector, not the public sector."

However, Oakland - at a 15.4 percent unemployment rate, with more for specific populations and in particular neighborhoods - has the highest unemployment rate of any city west of the Mississippi - a fact Solis did not address.
