"You cast a chart to see the soul’s blueprint ... ."

These are the words of Djenne Ba - an esoteric astrologer and metaphysical lecturer, who recently moved back to Oakland after a number of years away. She caught a whiff of the contentious relationship between the Occupy Oakland movement and Oakland’s Mayor Jean Quan and decided to cast their astrological charts.

The results amazed Ba, she said. Before she translated her findings to me, Ba simplified her explanation of why astrologers cast charts in the first place.

“It [the chart] involves the date (of birth or event), time and place," she said. "Next, you read what the stars reveal according to the elements, house placements and quantitative placements.”

According to Ba’s analysis, Oakland’s Occupy movement is Libra, born on Oct. 10, 2011. Quan is also Libra, born on Oct. 21, 1949. OO was born on the buildup of an Aries full moon. The Moon represents the public and the people. Aries represents personal “I” and Libra, the “we.” Occupy’s chart is based on partnership and working together. The general assemblies have potential of being the vehicle to bring together community.

Along with the sun in Libra, OO’s Mercury and Saturn are also in Libra, resulting in a Libra stellium, an aspect configuration where a minimum of three planets are all in the same sign. Quan’s chart also contains a Libra stellium.

Any time a stellium is present in one’s chart, there is high concentration of energy. Libra is an air sign. The focus of the air element is on communication and networking, partnership, business, socializing and people working together.

Saturn deals with restructuring the balance or what’s out of balance and is the taskmaster. The full moon is about opposition and full of magnetic qualities with a call to achieve balance.

Quan is born on a new moon. Her chart reveals Mars and Pluto in the sign Leo in the eighth house in Scorpio. The indications are an elusive personality, an affinity towards power and stoicism and a compassionate and well-meaning person. Leo is the actor of the zodiac. Ba says there’s no doubt Quan will run for higher office. She wants to be known and is a social being.

At the birth of Occupy Oakland, the mayor resonated strongly with the movement. Her overall energy is Libra and the movement’s energy is Libra - making them on the same frequency. What occurred on the Oct. 25 when the police descended onto OO’s peaceful encampment did not sit well in Quan’s soul. Ba contends she reacted from pressure.

Both Quan and Occupy charts have four planets in air, three planets in fire, two planets in the earth element and one planet in water. That means there is an exact elemental line up between Quan and Occupy Oakland.

Ba wonders aloud - is that coincidence or synchronicity? Occupy Oakland’s chart and planetary placements are intimately interwoven into Quan’s planetary placements. That connection will follow her career for some time to come and will long be associated with the Occupy movement for unfavorable reasons.

Ba says she doesn’t know what the future holds. With the intense astrological phenomenon occurring during the short relationship between the mayor and Occupy, a solar eclipse, Mercury retrograde, a lunar eclipse and Jupiter retrograde and their chart connection, things are likely to go in an unexpected direction with unexpected disruptions and actions. Ba’s softly warns there may be some challenging times.

The message of the 99 percent, Ba asserts, is that all must work together. Ba doesn’t see the spirit of this movement being quieted or shutdown, though it may need to pull back during the winter.

However, there are lots of changes with partnership and how things are being run. Things are shifting and uncertain at this point. Ba says, if you want to find out where the movement is at we’re going to have to look to the spring for the answer. Spring is really going to tell the future of the movement.
