Who in Oakland hasn’t heard of Ise Lyfe???

An Oakland native and veteran to the poetry/rap scene, Ise Lyfe is a phenomenal, award winning artist. From being the National Poetry Slam Champion to being named one of, “101 outstanding men making a difference” by the Black Expo of California, he has done it all!

His voice will mesmerize you and his message will definitely make you think. If you’ve never had the opportunity to experience his presence on stage, he can quiet an audience with just one verse and will keep you hooked on his every word. From Canada to the UK and all across the United States, Ise Lyfe has graced many stages and shared them with amazing artist such as Dave Chappelle, Lauryn Hill, Dead Prez, Talib Kwali, Erykah Badu and The Coup. Along with his notable performance on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, Ise Lyfe also wrote and starred in a one man piece he titled, “Who’s Krazy?

Ise Lyfe recently wrote his first book entitled, “Pistols and Prayers” which is a collection of prayers, poetry, journal entries, rhymes, and short essays that come together to form a thought provoking sociopolitical commentary, blended with a glimpse into the author's coming of age as a man, artist, and advocate for social change.The book is being published March 19th.

In celebration of the book, Ise Lyfe is currently showcasing his work in an upcoming play also titled “Pistols and Prayers” which will take place at the Berkeley Repertory Thrust Theatre on Friday March, 19^th at 8pm for one night only (tickets here).

“Pistols and Prayers” is a mixture of Spoken Word, African-American Folk Spirituals, Classical Music, Hip-Hop, and Theater all on one stage. The collaboration of these genres results in an amazing thought provoking performance piece which celebrates the African Diaspora and its impact on the Urban American experience.

The play is written and directed by the nationally renowned Spoken Word Hip-Hop Theater Artist who will be accompanied musically by African-American folk spiritual artist Melanie Demore, and young Master Cellist, Michael Fecskes, along with DC from 106.1 KMEL on the 1's and 2's.
