In May 2011, the University of California announced six finalist sites being considered to serve as the second campus of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, or LBNL.

The finalists were selected following an extensive evaluation process. For each of the six finalist sites, LBNL is hosting a public meeting - and the one in Oakland is Wednesday, July 27.

TODAY'S public meeting for the proposed Oakland site will include presentations by LBNL representatives, city of Oakland officials and site developer Oakland Harbor Partners LLC - OHP. A joint venture between Signature Development Group and Reynolds & Brown, OHP is the only East Bay developer among the six finalist sites. 

The Oakland site being considered is nestled along the Oakland Estuary, just south of Jack London Square and the world-class Port of Oakland. In addition to stunning views of the Oakland Estuary and San Francisco skyline, the convenient, accessible waterfront site is close to public transit and a host of amenities for LBNL employees, including nearby Jack London Square, restaurants, the Oakland Museum of California, abundant outdoor recreation and Oakland’s revitalized, vibrant downtown.  

A key competitive advantage to the Oakland site is that the major city, state and regional reviews have been completed and all of the basic entitlements are in place to accommodate LBNL’s second campus. This will save LBNL time and money.
