Since the first barbershop was built in this country, it has served as not only a place for grooming, but a hub, of sorts, providing fellowship, friendship and a sense of community for those who visit it.

Oakland Local recently paid a visit to Station 33 Barber Shop - a family-owned business that has been a part of the Lake Merritt neighborhood for more than seven years.

We asked the owner, the barbers and the customers what was special about Station 33 and this is what they had to say.
