Capping off a record-setting turnout at Oakland's 18th Bike to Work Day Thursday, the East Bay Bicycle Coalition and Walk Oakland Bike Oakland welcomed hundreds of bike commuters to the Bike Away From Work Party.

With music from the Muddy Roses, a bike circus from Cyclecide, and bike dancing from the Derailleurs, and food and drinks from the Old Oakland neighborhood and Trumer Pils, hundreds of guests enjoyed a break in the warm evening.

During the program, the EBBC awarded its annual Bike-Friendly Business Awards to Alta Planning, Clif Bar, and Sun Light & Power Company. California Assemblymember Nancy Skinner was on hand to present the Bike Commuter of the Year Award to sixth grade student Jason Hollick.

Taking full advantage of the street closure, astroturf, tables, and chairs lined a block of Washington Street. Actual Cafe's portable parklet, installed temporarily in front of Ratto's Market, drew attention to the Parklet Love-in happening this Sunday, as well as the city's recent efforts to bring more permanent parklets to Oakland.

Bike Month continued into Friday evening with both a Bike-in Movie Night at Trumer Pils in Berkeley with the EBBC, showing the documentary With my two wheels, and the East Bay Bike Party's first year birthday ride, departing from Downtown Oakland.
