Although Bay Area temperatures have been below normal this summer, Youth UpRising will still hold its annual “Hotter Than July Block Party” this Friday, July 23, at its state-of-the-art youth center at 8711 MacArthur Blvd. in Oakland.

The event – which runs from noon to 6 p.m. – is geared to the community and encourages all to visit the Youth UpRising facility to get to know your neighbors and enjoy a fun Friday afternoon with the family.

The afternoon activities include free face painting, water fights and board games. And did I mention a jumper? Also featured: 510 Skateboarding will be holding the final round of its skateboarding tournament at Youth UpRising’s newly unveiled skate park. Live DJ’s will be spinning soul and R&B throughout the day followed by a performance from Bay Area singer, R.O.D. at 5 p.m.

People of all ages can come out to enjoy treats like cotton candy and Rainbow Italian Ice. Also, Corner’s Café will be serving BBQ ($5 for adults; $2 for kids 12 and under).

Come out and enjoy some good food, great weather and share some fun times with the community. I’ll see you there!
