This project is phase 2 of the Bay Area Toxic Tour -- an award-winning 2009 investigative series by Oakland Local co-founder Kwan Booth, Pulitzer prizewinning journalist Kim Komenich and Newsdesk.org which examined the impacts of chronic air pollution in West Oakland.
Environmental reporting should not be a drive-by affair, so Oakland Local is making good on our promise to periodically revisit the environmental issues of West Oakland.
This year's Toxic Tour is supported by a generous grant from the Society of Environmental Journalists, and by individual donors. Guidance is provided by Oakland Local senior editor Amy Gahran, and former USA Today environment editor Rae Tyson. Several Oakland Local interns also are assisting with this coverage.
