Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe soon opening second location in Oakland

Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe

Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe

If you're one of the many North Oakland folks who regularly drive, cycle or walk over to Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe in Emeryville for some of their 24/7 breakfasty goodness, you're going to be thrilled that a second Rudy's is definitely opening on 18th and Telegraph in downtown Oakland - right in the Fox Theater.

On the other hand, if you're one of those people who's concerned that Uptown - and increasing chunks of Telegraph Avenue - are getting increasingly hipsterized, you may be waiting for Rudy's to move in to prove it's "grassroots, we support the community vibe" before you jump up and down.

Co-owned by Oaklander and Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt, Rudy's is a comfort food heaven, especially if you like heavy with a double dose of punk/goth sensibility and hella tattoos. The eggs, sausages, toast, pancakes, fries and so on have made thousands of people very happy.

Best of all, Managing Partner Doug Smith told Diablo Magazine they were going to do breakfast, lunch and dinner late-night, adding another option to what feels like a thin set of post-10 p.m. late night dinner options in downtown Oakland.

Thanks, we will fix it now, John

Thanks for this post! Though two things: It's Green Day, not Green Bay, and the link to Rudy's website is broken. Can you fix?

I love their almand French toast, and new places to eat are wonderfully welcome. If they're good...they'll survive, if they're not so good...they likely won't. But the attempt is more than welcome!
