The visually inclined who are looking for some public recognition -- and prizes -- have three shots at fame in the next month.

The park contest wants the best images of favorite regional parks activities and locales. "Photographs may feature scenic views, wildlife, recreation or people enjoying the parks; however, they must be taken in one of the East Bay Regional Parks or Trails. Our judges will be looking for images of diverse habitats and activities." Adult photographers can share their photos via flickr, but youth must send in a CD (details here).

Prizes will include an individual Regional Parks Foundation membership for each of the three top adult winners, as well as prizes to be determined from our sponsors Sarber’s Camera, Nikon and Diablo Magazine. Youth prizes to be announced. Send
questions to pubaffs@ebparks.org.

Convention and Vistor's Bureau video winners will receive, overall, at least $5,000 in prize money, including at least one grand prize of $3,000. "I love Oakland" video contest entries should "portray Oakland as an attractive, interesting destination. Films will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit. Surprise us!"

Videos should be posted to Youtube, and they could take 10 days to be screened. Contestants can enter up to 10 videos. For more details, write to destinationoakland@yahoo.com.

Last but definitely not least, Our Oakland: Eastside Stories wants you to "change the conversation about East Oakland." Entries should "Take Back the East Oakland Story!" and "Show us the story that YOU want people to know about East Oakland." The top three winners will receive an iPod Nano or iPod Shuffle.

See the guidelines here. Contest entries will appear online here.
