Next up in the Summer Sounds concert series is Alexa Weber Morales, who will be bringing her Latin sounds to Oakland City Center Plaza on June 9.

Morales comes from a musically inclined family. A Berkeley native, Morales’ father is a novelist, while her mother is university administrator and aspiring vocalist. She learned how to play piano when she was five years old and sang her first solo at the age of 8.

Morales released her debut album “Jazzmerica” in 2004. It is filled with different music flavors like Latin, Cuban, Brazilian and African. Her latest album, “Vagabundeo,” was recorded while Morales was pregnant. The album combines Latin Jazz, Afro-funk, gospel, salsa, samba and pop.

All concerts run from noon to 1 p.m. and are free and open to the public. For more on Summer Sounds 2010, including the entire
