Looking for unique and creative holiday gifts this holiday season?
The first Friday of December will boast a number of holiday sales.
Art Murmur staples plan to sell special merchandise and bring out additional vendors to sate the seasonal demand.
Creative Growth’s annual holiday exhibit, Prismatic, opens Friday. The show is the center’s largest of the year, featuring work by more than 100 artists. Older work also will be on display. Pieces include, rugs, mosaics, ceramics, textiles, drawings, paintings, prints and furniture. Prices range from $5 into the thousands.
New merchandise also is available for sale. Greeting card six-packs featuring images by Creative Growth artists will be sold for $15; striped, organic cotton socks inspired by artist Erin Punzle’s work for $10; and pillows imprinted with artists’ work will be available for $125. Jewelry, wallets and art books will also be sold, as well as Bicycle Coffee - and every purchase helps support Creative Growth, which serves adult artists with mental, physical and developmental disabilities.
Rock Paper Scissors Collective - RPSC - is preparing to supply an extended retail section this Friday. RPSC member and Youth Director Kristi Holohan said all 100-plus members have been offered the opportunity to contribute to the sale.
“We’re trying to provide affordable, handmade and unique crafts,” Holohan said.
Shoppers can expect to peruse an array of handmade articles including clothing, purses, tote bags, patches and wallets. Paper goods such as cards, prints, zines and Slingshot planners are sold, too, and RPSC peddles jewelry galore: creative crafters fashion earrings and necklaces out of everything from mini beer cans to bike tubes.
The 25th Street Collective will host an expanded selection of vendors, including retailers new to the collective. Printmaker Jeff Boozer of crumblediamonds will be printing on-site and collective-member 2 Mile Wines is holding a tasting. Actual SF, a purveyor of sleek felt handbags, will be onsite, as will Windmill Corner, a Berkeley company that makes percussion instruments out of reclaimed wood. Oakland T-shirt makers Korrupt Label and fiftyseven-thirtythree will be selling their goods, too. And the collective is planning to feature added jewelry offerings.
Warehouse 416’s second annual Small Art Show - 'An Art Show for the 99%' - opens Friday. For the special holiday event items are priced at $99 or less. In addition to exhibit work, the gallery will feature button and T-shirt merchant Snarky McF Button Co. and jewelry maker Alouba. Food vendors Liba Falafel Bar and Monet’s Cakes also will be there.
Creative Growth and The 25th Street Collective will have similar events Saturday as well, and Vessel Gallery will hold its weekly Jewelry Trunk Show from 2 to 4 p.m. that day. Guests have an opportunity to meet artist Sakura Hara and learn more about her mixed metal and gem jewelry pieces.
