Weekend Picks: Things to do and see in and around Oakland May 6-8

It’s hot! Yes, it is and I love it!

We don’t need to exert too much energy, as our bodies adjust to the near-summer sun. It’s a good time to sit back, sip ice cold lemonade and listen to a little jazz.

Every first Friday of the month, at 8 p.m., the Grassroots Composers Ensemble will perform at the EastSide Cultural Center. Trumpeter Mark Wright will direct these fine musicians: Muziki Roberson, Mack Rucks, Dr. James Bailey, Joe McKinley, Greg Germain and featured guests. Admission is $10. EastSide Arts Alliance is at 2277 International Boulevard, Oakland.

At 6 p.m. Saturday, Guerilla Cafe will host a pop-up kitchen. Come and enjoy Ethiopian cuisine and support your local food artists! Share the injera and the experience with your loved ones. This yummy event is happening at 1620 Shattuck Ave. in Berkeley.

On Sunday at 1 p.m., Feelmore510, your friendly neighborhood sex-positive shop/educational center/art gallery will be holding the space in an open and supportive way, as former inmate Rodney shares his sexual experience in the California correctional system. It may not be your typical Sunday, but it’s bound to be a memorable one.
