Community Voices: Make Oakland Better Now! To Post Public Safety Goals and Criteria

Make Oakland Better Now! is pleased to be blogging at Oakland Local.  We hope to appear at other Oakland blogs in the near future;  the East Bay blogosphere is proving to be a vibrant and vital avenue for information, opinions, and news about Oakland that isn’t found anywhere else.

Make Oakland Better Now! is dedicated to advancing the dialogue on issues arising out the three most critical subjects faced by our citizens and our government:  public safety, public works and government transparency / accountability.  While committee leaders in each of those areas start the discussion, our members have to decide what positions are sufficiently important to them that they demand our public servants address them.

In the coming days, we will start laying out potential positions.  Our three committees will be proposing positions and priorities on Oakland Local.  We hope this starts a respectful but full and frank discussion.

Check in tomorrow as the Make Oakland Better Now! public safety committee leaders begin publishing proposed goals, rationales for those goals, and potential criteria for achieving the goals. Follow our progress.  Ask other people who care about Oakland to do the same thing.  And, most importantly, let us know what you think.

Make Oakland Better Now is a grass-roots group of citywide voters committed to improving the City of Oakland. We are targeting three areas that make a huge difference in the daily lives of all Oakland residents and their families: (1) Insuring public safety; (2) making certain that public streets, parks, lighting, and libraries are accessible and in good working order; and (3) demanding transparency and accountability of our city government. Make Oakland Better Now! posts are written by Bruce Nye, Nathan Stalanker, Michael Ferro, Sheryle Bolton and other members of the Make Oakland Better Now! executive board.
