Oakland HDR, by Monica's Dad,
There are alot of questions this Hump day morning, and here are some we're asking--and reading up on.
How do sex and race play into the Richmond Rape case?
One of our favorite bloggers, fem-men-ist, discusses the issues on Hard Knock Radio, with an archived stream to play later. Wretap writer Daisy Hernandez calls out a CNN video for racial profiling, and Laura Goode sounds off on judgemental messages about rape and drinking.
Why won't pet lovers forgive Michael Vick?
SF Gate goes back to the protesters and hears: ""Vick has never expressed one word of remorse for what he did to those dog. Not in any of his public statements, and not in his appearance on '60 Minutes.' Vick said he 'let it happen.' He slammed and beat and hung dogs to death. It's like Ted Bundy saying, 'I let someone murder this girl.' He doesn't take any responsibility for it."
Where are they going to find the money to meet the Oakland city budget deficit?
A Better Oakland's V takes apart the city budget and writes: "The majority of the overspending comes from the Police Department, on track to go $3 million over budget due to greater than planned for overtime costs, and the revenue shortfalls come from, well, pretty much everywhere. Property tax is looking to come in $0.36 million lower than anticipated, sales tax receipts are projected to be short $6.74 million, and then we’ve got expected shortfalls of $1.66 million in hotel tax, $0.96 million in parking tax and $0.36 in interest income. That sales tax shortfall, BTW, is based on January-March receipts, in case anyone was planning on using parking tickets as the culprit here." Whew. Are we screwed yet?
Could Mehserle's trial move to LA or San Diego?
The answer is yes, and here's why, from the Gate.
How did Oakland's Day of the Day compare to the one in SF?
Lauren Quinn says SF is "Gringos gone wild" while Oaktown is family friendly. Only she says it way better than this.
Is Kev Choice amazing or not?
Cool Hand Luke digs Kev Choice at Yoshi's and we share the love.
Is Oakland diverse or what?
Gene from Our Oakland goes from a day in West Oakland visiting Central Station to an interfaith service at Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church and finds it good.
We'll be posting more on the Richmond Rape case later today, stay tuned.
