EBASE is collaborating with the UC Berkeley Center for Labor Research and Education to offer a five-day intensive workshop on Strategic Campaigns.
Strategic Campaigns
Campaign Planning for Unions and Community Organizations
December 7-11, 2009
Application deadline: November 13th
This workshop is designed to help organizations, researchers, field reps, business agents, communications specialists and political coordinators develop deeper analyses of issues they are working on, create strategic plans and learn new tools for their campaigns. Participants will be asked to identify a campaign they are working on and will be guided through a series of steps to create a comprehensive strategic campaign.
The workshop will be led by Karen Orlando from the Labor Center and Brooke Anderson from the East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy (EBASE). Because of the participatory nature of the workshop, organizations are encouraged to send teams who are working on the same campaign.
Past participants have described the workshop as "the best workshop I have ever attended" and said "this class has opened by eyes to a whole new world of organizing."
The workshop will build participants' ability to create a comprehensive strategic campaign by:
* Identifying clear goals and objectives
* Analyzing strengths and weaknesses
* Developing strategic and tactics
* Understanding the issues affecting members and communities
* Creating a unifying theme
* Establishing and maintaining a member communication system
* Creating a timeline and evaluation plan
The registration fee of $700 includes workshop materials, class binder and alight breakfast and lunch each day. Class will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5p.m. each day. For those traveling to this workshop, the Labor Center has reserved a block of rooms at a nearby hotel. Lodging is at additional cost. The Labor Center is accessible by BART and AC Transit; parking passes are available for a fee.
