Find fresh tomatoes and more at farmers' markets this weekend

As fall starts to happen, the farmer's markets become more of a special treat to me, a  burst of growth and abundance in the middle of deeping chill.  The Laurel Community Farmers' Market is open Saturdays, year round from 10-2, at  4171 Macarthur Blvd at Maybelle in the parking lot of Trattoria Laurellinos, and it's growing, adding new vendors and planning seasonal events.

New vendors Wingwalkers Baking Company is selling cookies, cupcakes and scary good  bacon cheddar pretzels, and new vendors  Mediterranean Food Co. are selling their Middle Eastern treats: hummus, baba ghanouj, salads, marinated olives, pita bread, and pita chips!

This is a great time of year to pick up fresh greens, apples, and all those big squashes, including monster pumpkins.

Finally, on Wednesday, October 21st from 7pm-10pm  OFC Outdoor Movie night comes back once more.  Held at at 4171 Macarthur Blvd in the parking lot of Trattoria Laurellino's, this month's sow is a food justice documentary entitled Food Fight Made by Chris Taylor, Food Fight discusses how industrialized agribusiness is taking over the American food system and how grassroots organizations and community groups (like Oakland Food Connection) are working to change that! Admission $5, popcorn free.
