From District 5 Supervisor Keith Carson, posted to Facebook, no less:
All community stakeholders are invited to come to this introductory
gathering with Oakland’s new Police Chief, Anthony W. Batts, to hear
how he plans to approach the complex issues in Oakland.
The
hosts of the event are community leaders and a wide-range of social
justice and grassroots organizations that represent youth, various
faiths, women, minority, low-income and multilingual communities.
Oakland
and Berkeley are thriving with organizations, community leaders and
residents who are committed to making their neighborhoods safe.
Community stakeholders will have the opportunity to build and
strengthen direct relationships with local law enforcement and broaden
community and local government networks.
Former Berkeley Police
Chief Douglas Hambleton and Oakland’s former Acting Police Chief Howard
Jordan will be recognized for their distinguished community service.
The
event is sponsored by Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson, District
Attorney Nancy O’Malley, Public Defender Diane Bellas, The Black
Elected Officials and Faith Based Leaders of the East Bay, BWOPA (Black
Women Organized for Political Action, Oakland/Berkeley Chapter), The
Ella Baker Center, Leadership Excellence, The Mentoring Center, Oakland
Rising, PUEBLO (People United for a Better Life in Oakland), Youth
