Phat Beets Produce is moving along and we need
your help. Please read on if you are interested in our upcoming
projects and outreach efforts.
- Phat Beets Produce in
partnership with the Healthy Hearts Youth Obesity Clinic at the
Children's Hospital Oakland and the Dover St Neighborhood Group are
planning on opening a youth market garden at the Dover St Park on 57th
and Dover. Plans are being drafted and an expected groundbreaking is
expected for mid-spring!
- Phat Beets Produce just received a small grant from the Fairy
Godmother Society to continue our community produce stand and healthy
eating station at SMDP elementary school in North Oakland and to fund
small portion of our Healthy Hearts youth market garden. Thank you
Fairy Godmothers~!
- Tuesday North Oakland Farmers' Market to add new vendors this
spring. We will be bringing back our pesticide-free fruit farmer, J
and J Farms, and a few prepared food vendors in mid-march we will keep
you posted.
- Phat Beets Produce Now Accepts EBT/SNAP/Electronic Food Stamps. Tell your friends!
- We
need steady volunteers on either Tuesday or Wednesday's market.
- We
also are going to make a push to flyer all the blocks between 55th st
and 39th St. and San Pablo to Shattuck. Sign up to flyer a block to
support an more equitable food system for North Oakland. Please
contact max@phatbeetsproduce.org to sign up.
- SHOP Phat Beets Produce and support small farmers. Our small certified farmers' market operates every Tuesday from 2-6pm at 747 52nd St at the Children's Hospital Oakland.
Our community produce stand and healthy eating station is every
Wednesday at St. Martin De Porres Elementary School on 40th between MLK
and West. Come out and get the freshest veggies and taste the latest
healthy recipe from Chef Maurice of OBUGS. This stand is operated in
partnership with the students at the school!

Supported by community events, Phat Beets facilitates youth in leadership roles engaging their peers in healthy eating and nutrition discussions through fruit and vegetable sampling. Phat Beets works to connect small farmers to urban communities via the creation of farm stands and farmers markets in local establishments.
