There were two separate shooting incidents in East Oakland. Both occurred between the 9000 and 9100 blocks of International Boulevard.

An AC transit bus was caught in the crossfire, but no one on the bus was hurt. A man outside the bus, however, was injured.

This happened about 10 p.m. last night and it just goes to show that violence in Oakland never takes a break. It gets me to thinking: With incidents like this and similar ones in the past, how long before the police impose a curfew?

I’ve been on AC Transit several times past 9 p.m., and let’s just say it’s an experience. Especially on the weekends, when teenagers are out riding the buses. Most of the time they're in large groups headed to house parties and things of that nature.

I’ve noticed that police officers will patrol the buses, riding them from one part of Oakland to another. It's a very effective method, in my opinion, and it kept the buses I’ve ridden on quiet. The noise is a huge problem when teenagers ride the buses -- there are loud profanity-filled conversations, along with loud music being played.

There have been many recent incidents surrounding transportation safety in San Francisco. Should Oakland take a look at its own buses and make improvements before something serious happens?

Earlier this year, two men got into a physical altercation on an Oakland bus. This was after a racial comment was made about a “shoe shine."

I love public transportation. I’d much rather catch a bus than stress over gas prices and car payments (especially in today’s economic times). But it’s clear that not even AC Transit is a safe bet in this city.
