One day after the Oakland Police Department launched its campaign against robberies between Lake Merritt and High Street, police caught up with four youths fingered in at least three robberies, police reported.

Police officer Rojas spotted the four teens April 15 trying to rob someone after noticing them earlier in the day in the 2700 block of Foothill Boulevard, police said.

The officer sent back-up to stop the would-be thieves, and the four juveniles were detained.

While officers completed paperwork, after the youths were taken into custody, two other victims came up to tell the officers they too had been robbed by the group.

One robbery occurred at 5:50 p.m. in the 3100 block of East 27th Street. The other happened at 6:20 p.m. in the 1800 block of 28th Avenue.

Police held outreach events last week to bring awareness to the recent spate of robberies. The first was in the Laurel District on April 14 and the second was on April 16 in the Fruitvale Transit Village.

Stay tuned for details about a third event, for police beats 17X and 17Y in East Oakland, coming soon.
