Thanks to everyone who came out to the Oakland Local meetup last night at TechLiminal. We met a lot of great new people interested in blogging and contributing to the site and brainstormed a list of really interesting stories for the next few months. Look for those to start popping up on the site, as well as work from our new contributors.
And it sounds like we're bringing on extra muscle just in time, as our city continues to catch the attention of national media, who have been turning their attention on Oakland as a destination spot.
This week Sunset Magazine released its
guide to downtown Oakland, offering a step by step walk through of how to spend a night on the town while in The Town.
Speaking of downtown,
Pandora.com, everyone's favorite streaming radio service, which happens to be headquartered on Broadway, made the announcement this week that their service is getting a lot more kid friendly with a range of
selections to sooth the savage toddler. We know this is going to be music to some parents' ears.
And sure to check out the newest addition to the downtown nightlife this Friday, night as
ERA Art Bar opens its doors with a kickoff party.
If you're looking for some fun this weekend that won't break your back, then check in on our Twitter and Facebook feeds later today. This afternoon around 3pm we'll be giving away free tickets to beatboxer
Tim Barsky's excellent show Bright River at the Brava Theater in San Francisco. All you have to do is answer a bit of Oakland trivia and the tickets are yours.
And there are lots of other great events happening this month that you can learn more about on the
Black History Month event calendar, submitted by the Black Wall Street business district and of course don't forget the full line up of around town happenings over on the event calendar.

I hated missing the Oakland Local training. I hated missing all the people--one of my favorite parties was when I met a bunch of Daily Kos posters in person. Very cool and fun.
Will this happen again, anytime soon? Is there any other way to get the information; is anyone on OL staff local and meetable?
