Happy Friday, Oakland!

...OK, we were just kidding about the pigeon-serving restaurant yesterday. (On our Facebook Fan Page, some readers lobbied for a restaurant serving locally produced Canada geese instead. Yum.) Also, we were kidding about everything in yesterday's Daily Brief. Hopefully some of you followed the links we put in each of those stories to this list of the Top 100 April Fool's Day Hoaxes of All Time. Anyway, hope you enjoyed the fun.

Speaking of our April Fools Daily Brief: We ribbed AC Transit in one item, "AC Transit gives up" -- about how the agency was sick of fielding rider complaints and had decided to quit. Actually, in the real world AC Transit has been doing a pretty good job of community outreach and communication regarding the recent budget-induced bus schedule and route changes. Including this: For five days recently, 85 administrative employees from all divisions at the agency covered nearly 200 shifts at major transit centers, distributing information directly to riders at their bus stops. AC Transit is doing what it can under challenging circumstances, and the buses are still running. Kudos for that.

Meanwhile, here's some of what Twitter has been saying about Oakland lately, and what's happening this weekend...

  • mrdaveyd: "I wanna buy an Ipad, but I have rent to pay. And Apple always has these crazy upgrades u gotta pay for Ipad? Rent? Ludacris album?" PtahShadow replies: "Well U could not pay rent buy and sleep on your new Ipad in Oakland city center, hop on the Gov WiFi & tweet about it!"
  • woycheck: "I've been stuck in traffic so long I could have actually gotten around to blogging something. ...I would love to see statistics of minor traffic accidents in Oakland during the Springtime."

Some upcoming events for this weekend, from the Oakland Local calendar:

There's also an edible art show at the JanRae Community Art Gallery (at Women's Cancer Resource Center, 5741 Telegraph, April 2, 6-8pm)
  • More art, all weekend: The Oakland School for the Arts Spring Exhibition starts Friday Apr. 2, 6pm and runs through Sunday, 5pm. 531 19th St., Oakland.
  • Spring Derby: See the Easter Bunny, wear your fancy dress, and get goodie baskets. Starts 11am, Sat. 4/3, Lakeshore Baptist Church (3534 Lakeshore). Continues down the street before returning for egg decorating sponsored by the church. (More details)
  • Youth theater: The Guerilla Youth Theater Project is holding two performances of American Deco, a dramatic trip through the inner workings of a fictional big corporation. Friday and Saturday, both shows start 6pm. Admission: $5 youth, $10 adults.
  • Grand Avenue Cleanup: If you're not too busy munching Easter candy, join the volunteer cleanup of the Grand Avenue business district. Sunday Apr. 3, 10am-2pm.

...And finally, since the Easter holiday is upon us, we'd like to share this brilliant trailer for 3 Days Later: Jesus Christ, Zombie Lord -- a yet-to-be-completed independent film project by Clay Robeson and a talented troupe of Bay Area comedians. If you enjoy sharp parodies of musicals, watch it. If you get offended when people poke fun at religion, don't. Just sayin'...
