Watch as young, local artists showcase their lyrical talents in a hip-hop battle that combines art with advocacy Saturday night. The Five Elements for Peace Battle is an all ages event put on by the Oakland Green Youth Arts & Media Center. Buy presale tickets for $15 at the Oakland Green Youth Arts & Media Center, map it here. The event is being held at the Oakland Metro building (map it here) starting at 5 pm.

DJ Twelvz, the Music Program Director at the Oakland Green Youth Arts & Media Center, encourages people to stop by for entertainment that supports a great cause. "Five elements is a networking community of hip-hop artists where we are getting together and promoting peace in the community," Twelvz said.

The hip-hop battle's theme of nonviolence will be present throughout the event as information about the origins of hip-hop and its relationship with the peace is shared from battle to battle. This is an all ages event, and cuss words are strictly prohibited. "We wanted to be able to challenge the MCs to use their language rather than fillers for cuss words," Twelvz said. Proceeds from the event will go to the Oakland Green Youth Arts & Media Center.
