The First Town Funk Block
party is happening this
Saturday, June 5th,
in tribute to Michel Jackson. This is an opportunity to personally meet
the Community Rejuvenation Project Team and above all enjoy some bands,
performers, and free food.
Our
mission states, "The Community Rejuvenation Project cultivates healthy
communities through beautification, education, and celebration,” our
overall goal is to use our artistic skill to directly serve the
community.
Since our
last youth program during the summer, we have made the goal of engaging
the community as much as possible. Days before each mural we assemble
our team to do all that we can to research on local history.
It is highly important to project a positive and healthy
message to the people, but maintain artistic elegance. Our team is
trained to understand how each image and wall is sacred by blessing and
cleaning the surrounding areas.
We take
care of our murals as much as we do as our homes. Not only do we come to
give a beautiful mural, but while we are painting we often provide
food, music, and a safe environment for the community. We are a
collective of artists, despite where we might come from, we are banding
together to celebrate where we are now, Oakland.
The Town
Funk Block party is a chance for the community to meet us as individual
artists and how we work as a collaborative team. We strive to meet new
independent artisans and organizations that are serious about helping
expand our network of resources.
We would love to get a
full on team for gardening, food distribution, community outreach, and
of course more painters who are committed to give as much as we are
giving. Come meet us and our network of friends who are already
contributing to Oakland with what we all have to offer.
