Oakland Women Celebrate International Women's Day 2009

Now in it's second year, Oakland's International Women's Day Festival will take place this Saturday - March 6, 2010 - in the Fruitvale Dimond District.  Organized by Bay Area women's activist Roke Noir, in collaboration with Code Pink, the event promises to be a day of celebration, recognition, and affirmation of Bay Area women.

The celebration is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am with a drum circle at Dimond Park and will be followed by a celebratory march along Fruitvale Avenue.  Participants are encouraged to bring drums, noisemakers and banners remarking on what this day and event means to them. The day will end with a tea dance in the sunset, after a daylong festival.  There women will have the opportunity to talk with one another in small groups about what international women's day means to them.   Entertainment includes performances by just a taste of Oakland's always overflowing pot of local talent.

Non-profit organizations, women vendors and artisans are welcome to table and shop their wares.
