As the trial of Oakland Police Officer Johannes Mehserle trial continues, protestors in support of Oscar Grant have gathered outside the Los Angeles courthouse Monday afternoon. Chants of "No Justice, No Peace" and signs with Grant's visage welcomed the late Grant, whose family who briefly addressed the crowd. CBS 5 reported yesterday that Cephus Johnson, Grant's uncle, had this to say about the show of support: "As long as we stand together, our voice can be heard," he said, "And this is an example of how our voice can be heard, so thank you."

Mayoral hopeful Orlando Johnson spoke to the Grant case at Oakland's first mayoral forum last week. For his closing statement, he pleaded with the audience to keep their heads: "We're in a crisis right now. But please don't tear down my city. Let's use our anger in a positive way. Like working with the Oscar Grant Coalition."
