Over 250 Oaklanders came out for the 3rd annual BikesforLife 2010 Peace ride, pedalling down International Boulevard under a full moon. Organized by Tony Coleman, Bikes4Life's founder and a long-time Oakland community leader, the ride's themes included Justice for Oscar Grant, descresing violence, and promoting health and green living in Oakland's lower-income, people of color communities--and throughout the city. Susan Mernit is the founder of Oakland Local. She is also a circuit rider for The Community Information Challenge, a program of The John S and James L Knight Foundation, and a consultant to non-profit and community organizations.
