Tired of waiting on Major League Baseball to make a decision on the Oakland A’s and their future. San Jose Mayor Larry Reed has decided to take “measures” which could very well come back to haunt him.
It was reported today that Reed wants to push forward with putting a measure on the November ballot for the funding of a ballpark. This proclamation caught the ears of those in the San Francisco Giants organization. Who own the “territorial rights” to San Jose because that’s where their minor league is located.
According to an article in the Oakland Tribune, Reed’s making this move a pivotal time. If a measure is to be added to the ballot, it would have to done before August 3rd.
Ironically A’s owner Lew Wolff and a “grass roots” group called “Pro Baseball for San Jose” would fund the ballot measure and have vowed to raise $350,000 to $400,000 make sure the measure makes the ballot.
One has to wonder if all this effort on San Jose behalf is due to the fact San Jose just like Oakland is facing a million dollar budget deficit of their own.
It’s clear that the battle over the Oakland A’s isn’t over. We’ll have to see what happens next in situation.
