One person’s cast-offs are often another person’s treasures. And these treasures and more can be found this Saturday at a Community Garage Sale at Bushrod Park, west of the tennis courts, on Shattuck Avenue, between 59th and 60th streets.
The event - which run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. - will help the community policing effort in OPD Beat 11. Local residents are encouraged to donate items that can be sold to raise money to pay for the activities of the Shattuck Neighborhood Crime Prevention Council. Some of the normal expenses of the council include the call-in Hot Line, flyers to notify residents about meetings, photocopy costs, meeting supplies, refreshments for the general meetings, equipment, community improvement projects, support of the Bushrod Recreation Center activities and funding youth summer activities in the beat.
Ideal items to donate include: clothing, books, small appliances, kitchen gadgets, cookware, computers, printers, electronics, records, cassettes, CDs, DVDs, hand and power tools, gardening items, furniture and carpets.
To make things go smoothly, the council is asking for items to be delivered between 8 and 9 a.m. on Aug. 21 to Bushrod Park; to be clean and sales worthy (especially clothing, cookware, appliances and furniture); be labeled as to whether or not they are functioning, include operating instructions, etc. (i.e. electrical and mechanical items); and that items that should be sold together be tied or taped together.
If you are unable to transport your items to the sale, call Ozzie Vincent at (510) 654-6673 before the sale to arrange for a pick-up. Volunteers also are needed for the sale; come to the park and lend a hand.
