Adimu Madyun's documentary, Operation Small Axe is having a showing in Oakland this Thursday, August 5, at the Black Dot Cafe at 6:30 PM.

In March of 2010, at the Patois Human Rights Film Festival in New Orleans, “Operation Small Axe” won the Rise Up Award. The piece takes an up-close-and-personal look into the eyes of police terrorism in Oakland, California, through the stories of Lovelle Mixon and Oscar Grant, bringing audiences to their feet through the intensity of the story.  If you have not seen it, this is worth a viewing. (And the showing is a benefit for 7 people arrested the night of the Mehserle verdict and still in police custody.)

The Oakland Local Editorial Team is made up of Kwan Booth, Amy Gahran, Irene Florez, Michelle Fitzhugh-Craig, Eric Arnold, Jennifer Inez Ward, CB Smith-Dahl, Meg Bertoni, Susan Mernit, Tehea Robie, Ruth Miller, Debi Mason, and others.
