 You are cordially invited to attend Oakland City Council President Jane Brunner’s Women in Business Brown Bag Lunch on Friday, October 15, 2010.  This month’s topic is: “Thinking of Opening or Expanding Your Business in Oakland? The Business Assistance Center Can Help!”

 Whether you are just starting your business, growing an already thriving business, or simply in the initial entrepreneurial states, this free event is one that should not be missed.  Please bring your lunch and join us.

Time:               Noon-1 p.m.  (Plan to arrive at 11:45 a.m. for check-in and networking)

                        After the event, at 1:00 p.m. there will be a tour of the Business Assistance Center

 The discussion will feature Mike McPherson, Director of the City’s Business Assistance Center – Oakland’s “one-stop shop” for new and expanding businesses seeking permits and other City assistance. At the Brown Bag Lunch, you will learn about the resources offered by the Assistance Center to those thinking about opening a business in Oakland or expanding an already existing business.

Councilmember Jane Brunner is the President of the Oakland City Council. She represents North Oakland, District 1. On the Council, Ms. Brunner has provided leadership in the areas of Public Safety, Sustainable Development, Job Training and Affordable Housing. Additionally, Councilmember Brunner has led a campaign that has planted thousands of trees throughout Oakland. In addition to her City Council responsibilities, Ms. Brunner is an attorney with Siegel & Yee specializing in employment issues. Previously she served as staff attorney with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, 1245. Ms. Brunner is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley (BA) and University of California Hastings College of the Law (JD). She is a former public school special education teacher. Ms. Brunner is married and the mother of two children and has been a resident of Oakland for over thirty years.
