Alameda County Registrar of Voters' Dave Macdonald will lead an online “webinar’’ at 3 p.m. TODAY, Oct. 8, to help voters understand Ranked-Choice Voting, which is being used for the first time in the county on Nov. 2 for elections in Berkeley, Oakland and San Leandro.
“This webinar is just one more way we are reaching out to voters to help them understand Ranked-Choice Voting and to clear up any lingering questions they may have," Macdonald said. “During this online session, we will focus on how to vote using the specially designed Ranked-Choice ballot and the way candidates are elected using this format."
Ranked-Choice Voting asks voters to choose a first-, second- and
third-choice candidate for a single office. This makes it possible to
elect local officials by majority vote without the need for a separate
run-off election.
To access the webinar online, participants will be asked to click on a link on the Alameda County Registrar of Voters website. The link will take them to a website featuring live audio of Macdonald discussing Ranked-Choice Voting and visuals that will illustrate his points.
The webinar also will allow participants to ask questions of Macdonald about Ranked-Choice Voting.
Those interested in participating in the webinar are asked to pre-register on the Alameda County Registrar of Voters website, acgov.org/rov.
The online presentation will be similar to those Macdonald has given to City Councils and other government agencies as well as to several dozen community groups as part of the extensive voter outreach effort his office is now leading to explain the news voting process to local voters.
