On Aug. 27, Fremont police Officer Todd Young was shot multiple times while trying to serve an arrest warrant on 20-year-old Andrew Barrientos in Oakland. His injuries required multiple surgeries necessitating 60 units of blood. He is continuing to need additional surgeries and could use your help.

This Wednesday and Thursday, the Oakland Police Department is hosting a blood drive to assist Young. All members of the community are encouraged to donate.

Where: American Red Cross, 6230 Claremont Ave. in Oakland

When: From 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 8 and 9.

Details: Pre-registration preferred. To do so Call 1-800-Red Cross (733-2767) and follow prompting or visit ww.redcrossblood.org, type “officeryoung” in the sponsor code and sign up for an appointment. Then show up at Red Cross at your assigned time (or a little before).
