From our neighbor in North Oakland:
Hey, book lovers -- The Bookmark, the Friends of the Library
bookstore at 721 Washington St. in old Oakland, is having its annual
fall sale this week, hours 10:30-5:30 through the sale. Most of the
store's 17,000 books are priced at $6-$7 to start with, and there's a
wide and eclectic assortment of books.
Thurs., 10/14 - members' preview day, 50% off (and a big incentive
to join the Friends for $25 individual/$35 household/$15 senior/student)
Friday, 10/15 - 30 % off
Sat., 10/16 - 40% off
Sun., 10/17 - 50% off
This is a great way to stock up on holiday gifts, and the
bookstore's proceeds are a prime way, besides donations from
members, that the Friends of OPL were able to approve grants of $156,000
to the public library this year. Their new website, which details how
to join and how to donate, is www.thebookmarkbookstore.com. BTW, the current newsletter has an interview by church member Kathleen Hirooka.
This is an utterly worthy cause, and a painless way to support the library, so please check it out.
