Interested in checking out new products and artisan foods from people who may not (who probably don't) prepare them in commercial kitchens? Want to check out the edges of the emerging food scene? I

f the answer to either (or both) questions is yes, you might want to run, not walk to the second East Bay Underground Market happening on from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, in the parking lot  at the corner of 24th/Broadway in Oakland (enter on 24th).

The first Underground Market in Oakland was a blast, and this one should be fun as well, with confirmed vendors. They include:

There are also going to be workshops: one on Homemade Traditional Honey Drinks from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m., from Frantisek Felbeck, and a second on Homebrew, from the Local Brewing Company, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

To get into the market, you have to sign up for a free membership; that's the way the Market sidesteps the requirement that items that are sold be produced in a commercial kitchen.

Pete, I am thinking about making this my Saturday night activity--it sounds like it will be 6 hours of foodie intensity--I love the part about giving local people the chance to grow a business and get in front of customers with products, local products.
