Oakland Local Sales & Marketing manager

Have experience selling online media, Yellow Pages display ads, or classifieds? Want an interesting job that offers great incentives for results?
Oakland Local, a non-profit community news & media site based in Oakland, CA, is looking for a sales and marketing manager to work with the publisher on online ad sales, sponsorships and related programs.


Responsibilities
•    Prospect and sell online ads, sponsorships and packages to local businesses, non-profits, and community organizations
•    Manage advertising and sponsorship client accounts
•    Develop, maintain and manage a prospect list
•    Pitch and follow up with clients and prospects weekly
•    Help plan, manage and sell sponsorable events
•    Share work on setting targets, focusing goals and priorities.
Requirements
•    Proven track record in closing sales
•    Go for it attitude, self-starter energy, good communication skills
•    Good phone manner
•    Able to commit up to 20 hours a week, including some time in the office in downtown Oakland and much more time out in the field
•    Comfortable using online tracking tools and CRM, including Highrise, Basecamp and Toggl
•    Own computer
•    Oakland or East Bay person preferred

Marketing & promotions associate


Have experience doing online consumer marketing, newsletters, outreach?  Enjoy putting on events and organizing programs?  Passionate about social media and want to help serve the community at the same time? Oakland Local, a non-profit community news & media site based in Oakland, CA, is hiring a marketing and promotions associate to work with the publisher and the community engagement team on marketing programs, communications and events.
The ideal candidate has experience doing marketing and promotion, is energized about doing this to help take a young community-focused media site to the next level, and knows Oakland and the East Bay.


Responsibilities
•    Manage newsletter, events, promotions & media sponsorships
•    Support onsite tabling, promotions and outreach
•    Handle marketing for site and related events and programs
•    Work on competitive analysis, metrics and research
•    Project manage
Experience:
•    2-4 years online marketing experience, consumer preferred.
•    Motivated self-starter, excellent follow-through.
•    Professional demeanor, team player, positive attitude.
•    Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook.

Susan Mernit is the founder of Oakland Local. She is also a circuit rider for The Community Information Challenge, a program of The John S and James L Knight Foundation, and a consultant to non-profit and community organizations. Susan lives in North Oakland, near the Santa Fe school, with her partner, her housemate, a rescue dog named Cazzie, and a yard full of ants. She is an aspiring gardener, a long-time blogger & entrepreneur, and a recovering journalist who's found home in Oakland.
