Cute overload at Holiday Jamz - Saturday, Dec. 11

The Miracle Chorus practices a new song for the concert.

Get in the holiday spirit at Oakland Youth Chorus' traditional Holiday Jamz concert beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11.

This year, Oakland Youth Chorus has the biggest turnout ever of their All-City Miracle Chorus, which includes children from kindergarten to fifth grade. Imagine 110 little ones singing a Hanukkah song in Hebrew.

“The theme of the concert is hope. But what's exciting this year, is the diversity of the music,” Production Manager Angela Dant said. “We have everything from a classical piece by Chopin to a Korean folk song. We'll have songs from Ghana and a couple of more traditional carols. There will also be an audience sing-along, which is always fun.”

Adorable kids sing holiday songs from around the world? Tickets support music education in Oakland public schools? What's not to like?

The program includes guest artist Lynne Morrow and the Oakland Symphony Chorus. Tickets can be purchased online before the concert for $10-$20 at oaklandyouthchorus.org, or buy them at the door for $15-$25.

Know a kid who wants to sing? Oakland Youth Chorus' new cycle of classes opens for enrollment in January with auditions for Middle School Magic and Concert Chorus. A new session also will begin for its All-City Miracle Chorus for children in elementary school (no audition required). Contact angeladant@oaklandyouthchorus.org for more information.
