It's time to nominate your favorite Oakland business or artist for an Oakland Indie Award.

These awards, which started in 2007, are for businesses and artists that give back to the community through volunteering on supporting other local businesses in other ways.

Basically, it's a way to recognize local entrepreneurs and creators who inspire us and help make Oakland the amazing place it is.

Nominees must be either an independent for-profit business based in Oakland, or an artist/artisan who lives or has a studio in Oakland.

Nominate as many businesses/artists as you want. Home-based businesses count too.

The more details you can provide, the more judges will understand and appreciate why your nominee is qualified.

Winners get media exposure, awards, decals and gifts, and they are honored at the Indie Awards party.

The nomination deadline is March 24.

The awards party is open to the public. It's on May 14 with food tastings, music, art and shops, all from Oakland!

Nominations and details are online at http://oaklandindieawards.com.
