Allendale safety watch: Meeting tonight

Oakland residents who live in Allendale but missed January's Neighborhood Crime Prevention Council meeting can find the minutes online.

This month's meeting happens tonight at 7 pm, Allendale Recreation Center, 3711 Suter Ave.

There were more than 60 crimes in the beat (24Y) from late December through early January, including five burglaries, seven thefts, 12 civil assaults and 11 auto thefts, according to the minutes.

About 20 people attended the meeting. Hot topics included a blighted gas station on high street where homeless are sleeping and a neighborhood beautification project for the spring.
