City Slicker Farms, a group devoted to increasing food self-sufficiency in Oakland, is looking to add diversity to its board.
The organization, which creates organic, sustainable, high-yield urban farms and backyard gardens, is looking to expand its board to include a greater range of ages, races, genders and life experiences.
Board members would share City Slicker Farms' commitment to empowering Oakland residents to grow healthy, organic food; have experience as a non-profit Board member or community leader; have a basic understanding of non-profit financial and program management; and live in Oakland or the East Bay.
Interested applicants also might have experience in any one of a range of areas, including program management and strategic planning, small business, publicity, event coordination, fundraising, financial management and grassroots organizing. Board members also could have significant gardening and farming experience and access to sustainable agriculture, Oakland community, local government, media, social justice, and local, state and national food policy networks.
Service on the board offers a a chance to help mold programs and strategies. Board members commit to a two-year term requiring from 10 to 15 volunteer hours per month. Board meetings are held monthly from 6 to 8 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month in West Oakland. The Board’s primary responsibilities are governance, oversight, fundraising and strategic planning.
