The Greater Rockridge Neighborhood Crime Prevention Council (beats 12Y and 13X) will give Oakland residents an hour to hear and question Oakland Police Department Chief Tony Batts on Apr. 8 at its monthly meeting at the Rockridge Branch Library.
Oakland has about 30 neighborhood councils, which correspond to police beats. The councils, which are community run, are a way for neighbors to communicate about local issues. Police officers attend the meetings to hear residents' concerns, share crime alerts and offer safety advice.
According to Chairman Frank J. Castro, "This will be a three-way joint meeting among the NCPC, the Rockridge Community Planning Council and the Oakland Yellowjackets (bicycle club)."
After Batts speaks, the crime prevention council will have a brief election for its chair and vice chair positions. The planning council also will have its annual election.
After the elections, the NCPC will hold its regular meeting with its problem solving officers and neighborhood services coordinator.
The meeting will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rockridge Library, 5366 College Ave., in Oakland.
